Yesterday Prima withdraw there Half Life 2 Mod Makers Guide from being published.

This is the answer I got from a supplier of the book "not prima":

Quote:
Please wait a moment. You are being connected to an available operator.
You are now chatting with 'Adam'

darren: Hello I recently had an outstanding order with yourselves for Half Life 2 Mod Makers Guide (Prima) do you have any idea on why it was cancelled.

darren: order number: 1352237

Adam: unfortunately the publishers have discontinued that item today so we had to withdraw the product from our system, you should get a letter regarding this in the next few days, sorry.

darren: ok thank you

darren: bye

Adam: Thanks for chatting. Bye !

And this is an email send to prima:

Quote:
Dear Sir/Madam

I am enquiring on why have you felt the need to withdraw publishing: The Half Life 2 Mod Makers Guide

As I was really looking forward to it after having brought Half-Life 2 Raising the bar and the Half-Life 2 Guide and being was overwhelmed by the quality.

Yours sincerely

There's no point to a mod making guide. We're fine with the community we have that teaches everyone.

They should just update the SDK References instead of making a book we have to buy.

They stopped because they saw that it would not be proffitable. Incase you guys haven't noticed, the HL2 modding community isn't what everyone expected it to be.. Hell, HL2 only sold 1.7 copies total. They would make very little money if they were to spend the time making, producing, and distrubiting it to such a small crowd. If you want a large mod community with books and more tutorials than you can shake a stick at, switch over to the Unreal engine so you can be prepared for Unreal 3.

If they released a guide to modding they would be stealing our database. (because it already covers everything.)

Then why is it that everyday there are people posting questions about mapping, modding and rarely do I see intelligent responses. Not just here but at many other so called HL2 sites. Ok....rarely is being harsh...about half. I think a modding guide would have been good.

Many mappers and modders are too busy to help out or don't want to divulge their secrets "until" they release their masterpieces.

I've had many questions about mapping in the past. Some were answered, some steered me in the wrong direction and some went unanswered.

It also doesn't help the community when people show their work and get....wow...that sucks....as a response. Most of the time it will suck but being rude and arrogant just chases the "could be elite mappers" away.

I love everything HL2 but the community needs to pull together more.

I can’t believe I had grammatically errors in that email, I guess I was in a rush but yes as soon as I get a reply I will let you all know the answer.

Thanks.

That's only retail sales, not steam sales.

They cancelled it because of your atrocious rape of the English language.
